Today is the 16th of September and it is Malaysia Day. Malaysia Day is celebrated on 16 September every year. We previously wrote a bit about Malaysia in our previous post. While Malaysia achieved its independence on 31 August 1957, the Malaysian federation was formed on 16 September 1963.

Malaysia was originally known as Federation of Malaya when it gained its independence in 1957. In 1963, Singapore, Sarawak and North Borneo joined with Malaya to form the Federation of Malaysia. A declaration was signed on 16 September 1963 and the name, Malaysia, was born. Singapore left the Federation of Malaysia in 1965. North Borneo is now known as Sabah.

Malaysia is accessible by air, land and sea. This country has transportation system of flight, bus, train and ship. The ports are not available in every state but it is found in Penang, Port Klang in Selangor, Kuantan in Pahang, Kuching in Sarawak and Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.

In 2010, Malaysia Day was officially declared a public holiday in Malaysia. There are celebrations held in Malaysia on this day and some events taking place as well. If you have the chance, do visit this beautiful country.

Happy birthday, Malaysia.
