Event Industry Insights 2018

It is now end of July 2018 where the first month for the second-half of the year is almost over. In this blog post, we are going to take a look at the event industry survey report we received and conducted by EventMB earlier on this year.

 

A total of 2,233 people from the event industry participated in this survey where 52% are in the planning role. This survey will give a useful insight into the event industry and the collective opinion of those in this industry. We are going to share with you some of the information found in the report here.

 

Regarding event marketing

When asked what is the most effective event marketing tool, social media has the highest number of votes. It seems that people in the event industry like to use social media to market their events. E-mail marketing came in second and using website to market events came in as the third useful option to market events.

When it comes to the type of social media used, Facebook came in first place, with LinkedIn in second place and followed by Twitter.

Using Video As Part of Media Strategy

What is social media used for

From the survey, event professionals usually use social media for pre-event engagements. Social media is also used during events to engage audience. If you are interested, we can create blog posts with videos or pictures about your event, be it pre-event, during event of post-event. Type of eventtech used

The eventtech that is mainly used by those in the event industry is online event registration platforms. Examples of online event registration platforms are Eventbrite and Cvent. E-mail marketing tool ranked second most used, then followed by survey tool.

Venue choices

From this survey, hotel is the first choice for event planners to work with, followed by conference centres and unusual venues.

How a venue is selected/found

There are a few methods used by event planners to find venues with the most common method by word of mouth. Next, they use search engines and also online venue listings to find venues for their events. Social media is also one of the methods used. It would be useful if you have a website or social media platforms about your venue as event planners will surely go online to find out more about your venues, so it would be great to have a social media presence. Upload some pictures or videoes about your venue, what you have there and any events held. Having some blog posts about your venue would also let potential customers know more about what you have at your venue. Problems Working With Venues

The number one problem listed regarding working with venues is the slow response event planners get from the venue. Prices and poor wi-fi are the next two matters that frustrates event planners according to the survey. Problems on site and also venues not delivering what they promised are definitely on the list of what frustates event planners. Who would want to work with someone who do not deliver what they promise and cause problems to you, right ? No one would. It would just be great if everyone carries out their own responsibilites and be accountable for their own part. It is important that every party involved in an event communicate with each other properly and individually be responsible for their own part so that the event can run well.

What Corporate Event Attendees Want

From this survey, it seems that corporate event attendees prioritise networking as what they want from events. Coming in second place is learning and then entertainment in third place.

This will be our final post regarding this event. We have recently been a part of St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang‘s yearly carnival as we have uploaded our previous blog posts on this event – firstly a blog with a video to promote this event and an article regarding the event.

St. Nicholas’ Home Carnival in 2016

St. Nicholas’ Home Carnival in 2016

On 24 September 2016, St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang held their yearly carnival at their venue at Jalan Bagan Jermal in Penang. It is called the St. Nicholas Home Carnival. It was from 10a.m. to 3p.m.
The carnival had booths where people were selling food, products and items There were also game stalls set up where many people were seen having fun at those stalls. St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang’s very own blind masseurs also set up their own booth area to offer massages to visitors of this carnival.

 

There were tables set up near the booths which allowed visitors to sit down and enjoy their delicious food bought from the food stalls. There was a stage where the official opening ceremony of this carnival took place and also some performances. Chairs were set up in front of the stage for visitors to have a seat and view the stage programmes.

 

The event began with speeches by VIPs. After that there was a presentation of cheque from a company donating to St. Nicholas’ Home Penang for another one of their upcoming event.

This was followed by the official launching ceremony of this carnival.

The visitors counted down together with those on stage to launch this carnival. The poppers were popped to signify the launching of this event.

 

Colourful confetties flew in the air upon the launching of this carnival.

 

The visitors were enjoying themselves during the launching and also the entertainment lined up throughout this event.

 

The visitors and performers were enjoying the programmes of this event.

 

There were singing performances, dance performances, magic show and emcee to entertain the visitors of this carnival. We emceed for them during this event. St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang’s band which consists of Robert on the guitar and Samantha on the keyboard were entertaining the crowd on and off at this event. They are visually impaired but they can play their musical instruments beautifully and they can sing as well.

 

Their charity organisation also has a Recycle Contemporary Band which was supposed to perform at this carnival but they could not make it. The band uses recycled items like water bottles and cooking utensils to make music. Their band is also called “Ayam Taugeh”, which means “Chicken Bean Sprout” in English and if you are interested to enquire about any of their bands, you may contact St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang at 04-229 0800.At the later stage of the event, there was a surprise programme of prize giveaway conducted by us. We gave away our company’s voucher worth RM50 which can be used for event services. A question related to the carnival was asked and the first person on stage to answer the question correctly won the prize. A lady went on stage and answered correctly, so she won the prize.

 

This lady won the prize and the voucher was given out by Robert and Samantha of the St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang’s band.

 
After that, we were nearing the end of the carnival and music was played through the sound system. One of the visitors, an elderly gentleman went on stage and danced. He seemed to be enjoying himself at the carnival, which was good, and so, we invited more people on stage to dance together with him.

 

Towards the end of the carnival, a visitor, the volunteers, the sound and technical team, the St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang band and some members of their organisation went on stage to dance.

 

It was a good time at the carnival with so many things to see, try, eat, play and buy at the stalls; and so many event programmes to enjoy. Most of the stalls were sold out by the end of the event, which was good news for those who came to set up a stall.This year happens to be St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang’s 90th Anniversary. Their theme is Faith + Dignity. Congratulations, St. Nicholas’ Home, Penang on the success of your carnival this year and wishing you a Happy 90th Anniversary.
